There is a great article about the health benefits of tea at The Steeping Pot – http://shop.steepingpot.com/teainfo.php#8
It states: Numerous studies have demonstrated the anti-cancer properties of polyphenols. Some studies indeed suggested that tea’s polyphenols may reduce risk of gastric, esophageal and skin cancers if one consumes 4 to 6 cups daily. Other laboratory studies have found that polyphenols help prevent blood clotting and lower cholesterol levels. A recent study published in December 2005 showed that just 2 cups of tea may lower the risk of ovarian cancer by 46 percent in women.
Hope that helps.

The beverage Green tea (Simplified Chinese: 绿茶; Traditional Chinese: 綠茶; pinyin: lǜchá) is a "true" tea (i.e., Camellia sinensis) that has undergone minimal oxidation during processing. Green tea is popular in Morocco, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and the Middle East. Recently it has become more widespread in the West, where traditionally black tea is consumed.
There are many different vairieties of green tea, they are grown in different areas and different ones are more popular in different places. They all posses a similar base taste with type and quality determining its specifics. They all also have similar health benefits.
There are seemingly no drawbacks for overconsumption of green tea aside from insomnia as it contains caffeine. However this is unlikely to occur as the average serving only contains 20mg of caffeine.
