Green tea is not a magic weight loss pill. Green tea is a tasty drink that might help you lose weight, and will help you lose weight if it displaces something sugary.
First, make your own tea. Most bottled teas have lots of sugar added, so they’re not much better for you than soda! If you can get one that says "unsweetened" go for it, but those tend to be expensive premium teas, and you can make your own much more cheaply.
Second, invest in decent green tea. In green tea, generally, the earlier the harvest, the higher the quality, the higher the caffeine level, and the higher the price. Caffeine is the primary component of legal weight loss pills, as the strongest stimulant left unregulated. If you can get a decent-quality green tea at a grocery store (good luck), like something by Yamamotoyama or Itoen (Costco’s Japanese green tea) or even Stash, that will work better than cheap Lipton green.
Third, prepare it properly. If you buy tea from a good company, it should have good directions on the back. If the directions are bad, use water around 180 F (several minutes off a boil) and brew the tea for 1-2 minutes. These directions will make an acceptable cup from most teas.
Fourth, if you find it for sale, try matcha. It’s expensive, oh yes it’s expensive. But you drink the whole tea leaf, so it’s better for you than a mere extract.
